Guacamole Recipe

An online recipe with instructions for making basic Guacamole.

Ingredients

- 2 ripe avocados
- 1/2 red onion, minced (about 1/2 cup)
- 1 or 2 serrano chiles, stems and seeds removed, minced
- 2 tablespoons cilantro leaves, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon of fresh lime or lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 ripe tomato, seeds and pulp removed, choppe

Instructions

Cut avocados in half, remove their seeds, and scoop out the avocado flesh, and place it in a glass or ceramic mixing bowl. Mash the avocado with a fork then add the minced onion, cilantro, the lime or lemon juice and the 1 or 2 chiles (keep hands and fingers away from your eyes and nose when handling any hot chiles). Mash the guacamole a bit more, then stir in the tomatoes If you are not serving the guacamole immediatelyl, place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the guacamole or top it completely with a layer of mayonnaise to prevent the avocado from turning brown. If you topped the guacamole with mayonnaise to prevent it from oxidizing, you can mix it into the guacamole just before serving. Note that some cooks prefer to mix in the fresh tomato immediately before serving.
