French Canadian Tourtiere

An online recipe with instructions for making French Canadian Tourtiere.

Ingredients

Filling Ingredients:
- 1 pound of lean ground pork
- 1 small onion, minced
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of savory
- 1/4 teaspoon of cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinanmon
- 1/2 cup of water

Filling Binder (use one of these but not both)
- 3/4 cup of bread crumbs
(or)
- 2 medium size potatoes, boiled and mashed

Pie Crust:
- Crust for one two-crust pie (top and bottom crust)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees

Cook the pork, minced onion, minced garlic, salt, savory, cloves and cinnamon together until the meat loses its red color.

Add the half cup of water and cook about 45 minutes longer over low heat.

Mix the binder (the crumbs or mashed potato) into the cooked meat mixture.

Turn that meat pie filling ito the uncooked bottom pie crust and top with the uncooked top crust.

Flute and seal the edges of the pie crust

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes

Reduced heat to 350 degrees and bake another 30 to 40 minutes.
