Broiled Grapefruit

An online recipe with instructions for making Broiled Grapefruit.

Ingredients

- grapefruit
- brown sugar
- maraschino cherry or other garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat oven to broil and place oven rack at a height that will allow the top of grapefruit to be 1.5 to 2 inches from the heat.

Cut grapefruit in half and arrange cut side up on a broiler safe pan

Slice a small piece off the bottom of each grapefruit so they will stand securely and - more important - so all the grapefruit tops are at the same level).

Spread or sprinkle brown sugar on the top of each grapefruit (some recipes suggest 1 tablespoon of brown sugar per grapefruit half).

Broil grapefruit approximately 5 to 10 minutes, or until sugar is melted and edges begin to brown (watch carefully during broiling because blackening the tops can happen fast).

Remove grapefruit from the oven and segment them using grapefruit knife or small kitchen knife.

Usually served at room temperature.

Garnish the center of each grapefruit half with a cherry if desired.
